" THE
GHOST EXPERIMENT "
Coalhouse Fort in East Tilbury, Essex is synonymous for
its endless ghost sightings, terrifying tunnels and
sometimes, aggressive ghostly interaction. Some parts of
the fort still lay derelict, held together by dark
imposing shadows, stories of negative entities and other
worldly beings nesting in the doom and gloom. Join us
as we hold a unique paranormal experiment in 2 parts.
PART 1: The Experiment:
Take part in the first official ghost mine sweep at Coal
House Fort. We need as many people, as possible to pass
through the Forts major haunted areas, in order to
document the positions of any suspected paranormal areas or ghostly encounters you may
have (LPS Ghost hunters will be on
hand to chat about your experiences, and help you document
your findings)
PART 2: The Investigation:
Using the data from the experiment, previous vigils and
various sightings and stories, will then hold vigil
throughout the night, at the specific hot spots accumulated
earlier in the evening.
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY
A very popular location for ghost hunting groups, the Fort’s
paranormal activity has undergone intense investigation over
the years and interestingly most of the reports recall
amazing similarities. The core of phenomena seems to centre
on the vast underground tunnels where gliding shadows,
sudden temperature changes and full bodied apparitions are
all reported in regular occurrence. Smells of Lavender,
intense claustrophobia and auditory phenomena are also
prevalent within the building infrastructure.
HISTORY
Coalhouse Fort is a Victorian
coastal defence fort set in parkland next to the river
Thames at East Tilbury, Essex. Completed in 1874, the site
was built upon previous gun batteries, to defend the
approaches to London from the threat of invasion from
France. The fort continued its role as a military
establishment through two world wars although with the
development of longer range artillery, its function in
defending the approach to the capital had become secondary
by World War II. In 1962 the fort and surrounding works were
sold to Thurrock Council.
